As the sun rose over the chêne oak forest, and the birds sang their morning call, the only movement to be seen in the valley was poolside at Villa Tropez, fast emerging as the boutique yoga retreat in France. There, the guests on our June yoga and wellness retreat, moved gently through their morning yoga practice in the cool of the morning air.

Afterwards, tucking into a healthy breakfast of muesli, fruit and herbal tea, guests discussed the experience. “Yoga by the pool was absolutely amazing. Just so zen,” said Erica Wong, advertising director at Condé Nast Traveller.

Later that day, guests enjoyed a guided tour around local jet-set hotspot St Tropez, including its fabulous Saturday markets, before heading out on the water for a boat trip.

Yoga retreat in France

The rest of the long-weekend retreat was comprised of twice-daily yoga and meditation classes held in the yoga pavilion or by the pool, walks in the local Provençal countryside and wholesome meals made from locally sourced staples of the Mediterranean diet. Just some of the delicious vegetarian offerings enjoyed over the course of the weekend included spinach gazpacho shots, a courgette and fennel bouillabaisse, chocolate dipped strawberries and poached pears with a coconut chia pudding.

There was plenty of time at leisure to enjoy the ample relaxation areas Villa Tropez has to offer, from the terraces to the olive grove, the swim-up pool bar to the comfortable sun loungers. Massages were available for those that chose to enhance their rejuvenation. Guests were able to take home a taste of Provence as a reminder of their weekend of wellness: hand-made tea bags filled with herbs, sourced from the Mediterranean healing garden, made to their own preference.

Our guests left feeling happy and healthy, and having fallen in love with the villa as all our guests do. “Villa Tropez is a truly beautiful venue,” said one. “It was so relaxing, the yoga was fantastic, and the food was absolutely incredible too.”

Yoga teacher and host Georgie Armour said of the venue: “Villa Tropez is absolutely perfect for a boutique retreat. The guests were very comfortable and really appreciated all the little luxury touches. The facilities and grounds are lovely, particularly the pool, which the guests just raved about. And the deck of the yoga pavilion and by the pool are hands-down the best locations I’ve ever taught! I’m already planning my next retreat here!”

The June retreat was made up of 11 guests and two hosts. The villa accommodates up to 14 in twin-, triple- or quad-share accommodation, with additional accommodation available nearby. There are a variety of places in which to dine, including the grand terrace and the arbor by the pool as well as inside the villa. Classes can be held within the spacious and welcoming yoga pavilion in the case of inclement weather or on the covered pavilion deck, by the pool or on a level grassed area within the grounds.
